Here, the salt spray, wind, waves, shoreline, sun, moon, flora and fauna are palpable forces. Their vital energy affects all of us, opening our hearts to a singular wild environment and this unique marriage of land and sea.

Here, we extend an open invitation to participate in a social and environmental initiative that deeply re-examines how we serve food, provide hospitality and create social spaces.

Solène and Nicolas are travellers. Piqued by curiosity to explore the world, understand its diversity, and draw inspiration from its cultures and cuisines, they spent time travelling the four corners of the earth until the moment their eyes were opened to a new awareness.

A site with a history

The history of La Butte was exceptional right from the start.

It all began in 1952 when Solène’s grandmother Jeanne-Yvonne decided to take her life in a new direction. She was a woman ahead of her time, leaving farm life to open a guesthouse despite society frowning on this sort of feminine initiative. Her taste for a challenge and her fighting spirit laid the cornerstones of La Butte.

If La Butte were a person, she would be a Breton woman like Jeanne-Yvonne: passionate, visionary and independent. She would have the gentleness of a welcoming and protective mother who feeds and comforts, and shares and transmits her knowledge of nature and love of life.

We like to think of our guests as a family who feel at home here, just as they would in the house of a caring mother. From Jeanne-Yvonne’s original guesthouse, we have inherited this spirit of hospitality.

Our guests come here, to one of the wildest natural areas in France, to re-energise and to feed their senses: to marvel at the reflection of the moon on the sea, feel moved by the tides, and breathe the breezes that sweep our butte and deliver the mingled scents of salt spray and heather right to the foot of your bed.

In this lively, open, diverse space, Breton tradition rubs shoulders with contemporary life. Farmers mingle with surfers, kite surfers and hikers; children at play run between grandparents’ legs; and all the world’s languages can be heard as guests share a platter, a brunch, or a druid-inspired herbal tea.
